Volunteering with the Bower House
The Bower House has a volunteer team of nearly 80 people. All are valued and respected whatever role is fulfilled and it is this team that enables the Bower House to deliver high professional standards on a day to day basis.

For volunteers it can be a chance to:-
- develop new skills
- meet new people
- gain professional experience

Volunteer as a Counsellor
- We have a team of over 40 counsellors, all of whom are qualified and trained, or are working towards qualification at level four, Diploma, Degree or Masters level.
- As a volunteer you will be supported and respected, offered training opportunities, have access to journals and a small library.
- You will be offered one hour’s clinical supervision per month by qualified supervisors, without charge.
Training to be a Counsellor? Looking for a Placement?
If you are in training at level four Diploma or above The Bower House offers an ideal placement opportunity. You will be well supported and encouraged in your work and studies by the Service Co-ordinators and our counselling community. Clients will be carefully selected for you to enable you to develop your skills and build up your required counselling hours.

Volunteer as a Support Worker
- No one at the Bower House disputes the role Support Workers play in the day to day running of the service. They are the backbone of the organisation and are the first point of contact clients have either when they phone or when they visit us.
- They provide excellent listening skills and the reassurance that everyone is welcomed.
- The support workers understand the nature of accurate record keeping, confidentiality and our data protection protocol.
- A robust induction procedure enables the role to be fully explored and learnt.
- Volunteers work in three hour slots which can be flexible to fit in with other commitments.
- The role can be developed for those who wish to get more involved – for example with administrative responsibilities, fund raising, and support groups.
